“An Inconvenient Truth” - Evaluation

I think “An Inconvenient Truth” is very interesting and enjoyable because Al Gore, who presented the documentary, knew how to attract the attention of the audience by showing real pictures of the impact of global warming on the environment. He showed many charts to compare the old times and our age to make the audience realize the danger of the issue. Some cartoons were also shown to make the audience easily understand the contents of the presentation.

Al Gore has deep information about the topic he presented which made him very calm while presenting and he spoke confidently. He was really good in choosing the right information at the right time and knowing when to move from one slide to another which helped him to make the people interested and curious about the rest of the story. Using new techniques like the mobile lift crane made the presentation more effective.

“An Inconvenient Truth” - Summary

In the 2006 movie “An Inconvenient Truth”, Al Gore, the former vice president of the US, talks about global warming. He concerned about this issue after the death of his sister from lung cancer and also his son’s near-fatal car accident. He presents the causes of the climate change crisis and problems with consequences. At the end, he outlines some solutions to reduce the problem.

At the beginning, he defines global warming which is the increase in the earth temperature and this happens when most of the infrared waves are trapped under the atmosphere layer caused by global warming pollution. The main cause of this issue is the high percentage of the CO2 in the atmosphere which is produced by many factors such as burning and destroying forests, smoke of factories and other factors. People aware of increasing the CO2 after Roger Reveille had made the experiment in 1957 to measure the CO2 in the atmosphere for several years and showed the result which was the percentage of the CO2 in the atmosphere increases every year.

There are many problems which could occur due to global warming. Melting glacier is an example of global warming. Al Gore compares some places in the past and now. He finds most of the glaciers have melted. Raising the sea level is another issue if Greenland melts. Many lands will be covered by the sea which will result in more than 80 million refugees.

Al Gore states some solutions which can reduce the issue. One solution is to reduce the CO2 in the atmosphere by reducing using machines which produce CO2 emissions. Another solution is to plant more trees to observe the CO2 from the atmosphere.

In conclusion, the main idea Al Gore wants to send is that everybody has part of the responsibility of global warming. Therefore, all people and countries should work together to reduce this problem.

My Carbon Footprint: Problems & Solutions

Carbon footprint is defined as the total amount of carbon dioxide produced as the result of our daily activities. Carbon dioxide production contributes to global warming which is why the carbon footprint is so important. I measured my footprint at http://www.footprint.wwf.org.uk/ and my result was 3.28 which mean that I’m living as if there were 3.28 earths. My scores for food, home appliances and stuff were equivalent but travel was high. My annual footprint calculation is 14.89 tonnes. Now I am going to outline some problems and possible solutions to my carbon footprint.
First, the highest amount of my carbon footprint comes from the car because I drive more than 25 hours a week so I contribute to raising the CO2 emissions in the atmosphere. I have no other choice to reduce the hours because I live far away from the college and I can’t drive a motorbike on highways because it’s dangerous. There is a solution to reduce car use which is stopping use a car for short distances and for long destinations I have to go with other friends if they are going to the same place. There is another problem in my footprint which is not eating local organic vegetables. In the UAE there are many farms and all of them use chemicals in spraying or during sowing and these chemicals contribute to atmospheric pollution. I have to stop consuming those kinds of produce and look for organic produce whether local or imported. Last, I have a problem with stuff at the home. Most of is made of plastic and contain toxic gases such as air condition and refrigerator which are unfriendly to the ecosystem. I have to reduce use of these items or find alternatives.
In conclusion, I advise everybody to measure his or her carbon footprint to find out the part where he or she contributes to global warming and get involved in reducing atmospheric pollution.
